Jackfruit constitues a rich source of carbohydrates and essential amino acids. It also contains Beta carotene. Jackfruit also contains morin and cyanomaclurin compounds.It is indigenous to western ghats. It is one of the most popular fruis in South India. Owing to its several culinary uses and its ability in plenty it is called as poor man’s food. Its latex possess the ability to break down bacterial cell walls. This activity is about four times higher in the latex obtained from young branches.

Benefits of ripe fruit 

Its ripe fruit is heavy in digestion, cold in potency, works as laxative, aphrodisiac, nourishing and is strength promoting.ripe fruit pacifies vata and pitta dosas. It is satiating, body bulk promoting and sweet in taste. It promotes muscular tissues. When taken in higher quantity it may increase kapha ( phlegm) dosa. It increases sukradhatu ( sperm count) and is useful in bleeding disorders. It is very useful for those who are facing premature ejaculation ailments. 

Harmful effects of unripe  jackfruit

Unripe fruit causes flatulence, aggravate vata dosa. Unripe fruit is astringent in taste. It also causes burning sensation. 

It is beneficial in snake poison. It can be fed to a person who is bitten by a snake. 

It should not be taken just after taking Pan ( betal). Combination of Jackfruit and betal exhibits poisonous effect. This effect can be suppressed by eating fresh butter. Indigestion caused by excessive consumption of Jackfruit can be treated by eating bananas.
